Why 15 sessions?
If the answers were easy and obvious you’d have worked them out by now. Take a little time—less than 24 hours out of your life—to look at things in a new light and practice different ways of viewing the world and your place in it. Once you get started, this will be something you look forward to and want to make time for. It feels good to have someone who really listens, asks the right questions, and supports your development.
Why do you offer a free sample session?
We need to know if we are a good fit. Once we have met, you may feel that another coach would suit you better. I may decide that I am not the right coach for you, and may refer you to another coach or to another resource more able to meet your needs. This free initial session allows us to explore the coaching process and relationship and decide if it makes sense for us to continue.
Where do coaching sessions take place?
I am happy to coach you at your office or somewhere where we can talk without interruption. You can also schedule sessions at locations I use in Washington, DC, College Park, MD, or Anne Arundel County, MD. International clients: we can talk by Skype, Facetime or phone.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Coaching is about the present and the future, rather than the past. The purpose of coaching is to encourage growth and development rather than healing. Coaching is a positive, future-focused discipline, designed to support whole, healthy, and resourceful people in making the best possible career and life choices for themselves.
How is coaching different from consulting?
A coach does not give advice or come up with business or organizational solutions on your behalf. Instead, you are the one who works out the answers. I ask questions and make observations designed to allow you to see your situation with fresh eyes. You will find that a different perspective—a new view of your world—will allow you to see possibilities you never considered before. Coaching is empowering, refreshing, and invigorating—even when some of your learning may feel very tough.
Is coaching confidential?
Yes. It doesn’t matter who pays the bill, your sessions are just between you and me. You should not sign up for coaching unless YOU want to see some difference in your life. What you discuss with me and what you decide to do is your business and yours alone—a conversation I am happy to have with your boss or training officer.
Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes. Once we’ve met, and decided there will be a value in working together, we will both sign a coaching agreement. You can check out the agreement I typically use here.
What are your registration/payment policies?
We’ll work out a payment plan and coaching schedule based on your needs. Payment is by cash or check and, to get started, I will ask you to pay for at least 3 sessions upfront, so we are both sure of your commitment to the engagement. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged at full price. Organizations who wish to have me work with 2 or more clients, or who wish to commit to an ongoing multi-year engagement, will be offered a discount.
